Speed & Camera Alerts

Welcome to the Victoria section of the Speed Camera Locations website. There is a lot of material for those interested in speed cameras, red-light cameras, mobile speed cameras and mobile phone seatbelt camera trailers. In the menu above (or for those using a mobile device, the hamburger menu), you'll find sections for each type of camera.

Victoria is the state where I live, and it was the first state where I started documenting camera locations. I ended up taking videos of over 400 fixed red-light speed cameras around Melbourne and Victoria. That's most of them. The aim was to provide a video from the driver's perspective. I felt this may help people who had received fines to explore the location further. For others, knowing where cameras are and what they look like, relieves some of the stress of driving. Whatever your reason for visiting Speed Camera Locations, welcome and please enjoy my efforts.

Fixed Red-light and Speed Cameras

Victoria mostly has combined red-light and speed cameras. The old film cameras I believe have now been replaced or no longer used. Red light cameras have largely been updated to red-light speed cameras. Victoria has fixed cameras along highways and freeways, and has three average/point-to-point routes. The average/point-to-point camera sites also include fixed speed cameras so you can get done for multiple offences.

Mobile Speed Camera Cars

Victoria has a considerable fleet of mobile speed cameras, that are mostly SUVs. The section on mobile speed cameras provides a list of the published locations by the Victorian government. The problem I've found is often a street or highway can cover a fairly large area, yet mobile cars are parked at or near the same locations. So over time I've created a map showing sections of roads where mobile speed cameras have been reported multiple times, which can indicate a regular location for a mobile speed camera. Of course there can be many false reports as many people don't know the difference between a CCTV and a speed camera. That's OK; false positives just mean people take care at more locations.

In addition, even though there are over 2000 approved locations, this doesn't mean all the locations will be visited within a year. In Victoria, the top 50 mobile speed cameras, over a period of around five years, generate a third of all fines. The map of user reports shows where cameras have been located, not where they could be located.

Speed Camera Trailers

Victoria has reportedly awarded a contract to Serco to provide speed camera trailers. These cameras are currently in a trial phase and it is expected the speed camera trailers will become operational in early 2026.

Mobile Phone Seatbelt Camera Trailers

A more recent addition are the mobile phone seatbelt camera trailers. Because these are generally located at the same location for a number of days, they can be found and documented. The government again to their credit provides a list of approved locations, but again locations are based on roads within suburbs, which can cover a very large area. The identified locations of trailer cameras are accurate within a hundred metres. The mobile phone seatbelt camera trailers are not speed cameras, although we can probably expect that to change in the future. Perhaps when contracts come up for renewal.

Like mobile speed cameras, there is a list of published locations, which at December 2025 was 333. The map in this section shows confirmed locations via a secondary source and suspected locations based on regular reports over a numbers of days, indicating a longer-term camera trailer.

Speed and Camera Alerts web app

Finally, what's the point of having all this information if it's stuck on a website that doesn't help you as you drive? Bringing all this data together is the Speed and Camera Alerts web app that can be accessed by anyone, totally free of charge. There's nothing to install. Just use the Speed and Camera Alerts option for the state/territory/area you're located, and you have a driving aid to help you reduce the financial risks of driving.

The Speed and Camera Alerts web app for Victoria can be used to use a set speed to warn you if you're speeding. For example, when driving on a freeway, but just as equally in those newer areas which can be 30km/h or 40km/h. Often 7 of the top 10 cameras are in low speed areas, every time the fine statistics are released.

For Victoria the Speed and Camera Alerts web app can run in Auto mode. The Victorian government provides speed sign data which was used as a starting point, along with thousands of edits and new speed limit sign data has been added, providing a useful aid when driving around Melbourne and Victoria.

A new feature of the Speed and Camera Alerts web app is it now covers average speed or point-to-point cameras. Imagine the peace of mind you'll get if you overtake another car and whilst focusing on overtaking, but don't recall your speed. Now you can see how your average speed is performing over the section of road as well as your current speed.

I use the Speed and Camera Alerts web app every time I drive out of the driveway and it often tells me to slow down, even though I have no desire to speed, and always try to drive at or below the speed limit. The problem is, we are human and we all make mistakes, every time we drive. Most people don't realise the number of driving errors they make. Luckily they usually don't get fined, but given time, they will. There's also a report you can send yourself, or share with friends, at the end of the drive to see how you scored. I can assure you, most of the time you won't get 100/100.

Thank you for visiting my Speed Camera Location site and I hope you find something of value. Thanks to those who provide information that helps, through reports, the Speed and Camera Alerts web app, or even if you're using other products or social media to share information. Some of that information has helped me evolve this site to what it is today. Thank you.
